I’ve added over 3000 hi-def screen capture from 7×02 What Are You Willing to Lose? and 7×03 Hold My Hand As I’m Lowered .I know I’m super late with these, so forgive me! Captures will be up sooner next time.
After Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton, who starred as “One Tree Hill” lovers Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer for six seasons, left last season, the show’s roster was in need of some heavy-duty recruiting.
Lucky for “OTH,” the well-timed cancelation of “Lipstick Jungle” made a free agent out of hunky actor Robert Buckley, who played boy-toy Kirby on the short-lived drama. While Buckley’s spiky hair, brooding eyes and washboard abs make him the perfect physical replacement for CMM, Buckley says that his character, sports agent Clay Dawson, was not called in as a substitute for the six-year starter. And after chatting with him about Clay and what to expect on the upcoming season, we believe him.
PopWrap: Were you an “OTH” viewer before joining the show?
Robert Buckley: It’s funny because [right] before I left for [filming], there was a UFC fight on and I had about 10 of my close guy friends over. And we’re watching the fight, just hanging out — totally being guys. And my sister-in-law walks in the room, and makes a comment, laughs. She comes back an hour later, “One Tree Hill” is on and the room is completely silent — with 10 grown men totally enthralled, glued to the television. She was just like, “What is happening?!” We said, “Shh! Nathan and Haley are fighting, quiet.” It kinda hit me like, “oh this isn’t just a show for young viewers, this is a good show, across the board.”PW: Tell us about Clay — what makes him tick?
Robert: Well, see Clay is an overachiever. Very passionate, driven guy. He’s very, very, well again, the passionate I can’t stress enough. Whether it’s about his work, [which] obviously he excels at — he’s at a really great position in his career at a really young age — or his friendships. The one friendship that we see the most of is him with Nathan, and you can tell that he really does care for this guy and his family and its not just about business. We haven’t seen many people that are close to Clay in his life, but those that are, you know are very important to him. … He’s a little bit of a mystery … like you couldn’t figure out exactly what his story was and he makes a couple comments where you’re wondering why he doesn’t believe in love. So I like not knowing.PopWrap: It’s clear that he’s the new Lucas in terms of stepping in and being Nathan’s buddy, but, even after the first two episodes, viewers can tell there’s more purpose to Clay than just being a sidekick. He seems like he may be a little, I don‘t know if this is too harsh to say, but damaged?
Rob: No actually, that’s the perfect word. I remember when I sat down with [“OTH” series creator] Mark Schwahn to talk about this role. I remember saying, “Let’s make it messy. Let’s have it be damaged,” cause that’s just so much more interesting and so much more fun to watch and there’s a lot more places to go with it. In the first episodes, you don’t know what it is that’s happened to this guy, but something in his past has hurt him in such a way that he can’t open up. Is he still mourning someone? You don’t know exactly what it is, but I like the fact that he’s imperfect. Visibly imperfect.PopWrap: Is this the type of character where it takes the whole season before we find out his story, or will we find out quickly what happened in his past?
Rob: You know, the writers continuously surprise me with what’s going on in Clay’s world [laughs]. I know that I can say that we’ve shot eight episodes so far, and by episode eight, you will learn so much about this guy. But I know I still have questions that are unanswered. So I think you’ll continually find out more and more about who Clay is and what his past is all about. But in the next five episodes, you’ll find out some really big revelations that will, I think, definitely shock and surprise people, but will inform a lot of the behavior that you’ve seen.PopWrap: Right now, Clay’s focusing on Nathan’s issues, but once that’s resolved, will Clay get more of that leading role spotlight?
Rob: It’s funny, in terms of saying a “leading role,” I don’t think there’s one lead on this show. I started off watching it during seasons five and six so at least I’m speaking to seasons five, six and now seven, but it’s very much an ensemble in that it really is about this group of people and it’s not really about one person and everyone else is in the periphery. [Clay’s] very much there to be a part of Nathan’s life and have his own world, but he’s a key part of the team, he’s not the lead man.PopWrap: Well, leading man or not, fans are sure of one thing: Clay is the new “OTH” ladies man. At least that’s what he’s being called on the blogs. How do you feel about that?
Rob: Oooh, wow, that’s funny. I’ve been actively avoiding the Internet and the blogs because I found out very early on that there is a huge vocal fan base for the show and so I knew that this is something that these people cared about tremendously and if I mess anything up, I would probably hear about it in ways that would make me feel horrible. So I’ve just steered clear of it and tried to give it my best. But I’m actually glad to hear it. I mean, “ladies man” I can handle.PW: Do you think Clay’s female conquests have something to do with that?
Robert: I owe a lot of credit to the ladies of the show for that one. A little shoutout right there to Shantel [VanSanten] and Janna and all the other pretty ladies who have enabled Clay to be the little playboy. People always ask: “Are you and Clay similar?” And the one thing I always say is I’ve never just gone into a bar and had random, gorgeous women walk up and throw themselves at me — for no reason in particular. I would not mind that, that would be tremendous. But Clay’s world, uh, his love life, [is] definitely nothing like Rob’s love life. [laughs]PopWrap: Speaking of Shantel, it seems like there is a brewing romance between her character, Quinn James (Haley’s older sister who also just arrived to “OTH”) and Clay. What do you think will happen with them down the line?
Rob: I love what they’ve done with relationships so far. It’s cool because with Clay, with the way we see him, he’s always on. You know, he’s always sort of in work mode or taking care of, things. You know, we never really get to see like what’s this guy like at the end of the day or when he’s by himself? But with Quinn, she’s the first person who he seems to have opened up to and let in. And they’re both going through their own personal struggles and found kind of a common ground in each other and I love that, I think that’s really great.PopWrap: I can’t help but notice that you are two-for-two on shirtless episodes so far — a theme “OTH” clearly brought over from your days on “Lipstick Jungle.”
Rob: [laughs] That’s funny. I think we break that pretty soon here. It won’t be every episode shirtless, but um … that’s funny that you said that, two-for-two [laughs]. That was also a common question, “How often is Clay going to be shirtless?” And part of one of the first talks I had was, “I need to be wearing a lot more clothes this time around” [laughs].
Fans of The CW’s “One Tree Hill” can rest easy. The show has received a full order for the season. Things are also looking promising for “Vampire Diaires” and cautiously optimistic for “Melrose Place.”
The network raised “One Tree Hill’s” order from 13 episodes to a full 22 on Wednesday. At the same time, they picked up nine additional scripts for freshman drama “Vampire Diaries” and asked for six more “Melrose Place Scripts.”
Neither the “One Tree Hill” nor the “Vampire Diaries” news is particularly surprising considering their solid early numbers. “Melrose Place” has not been an out-of-the-gate success, but the network has a lot invested in the “90210″ companion piece and are hoping the addition of original cast member Heather Locklear to the mix come November will help turn things around.
CW has not ordered more episodes of their freshman drama, “The Beautiful Life: TBL.” Yet. According to Variety, executives are waiting to see how its second episode fairs on Wednesday night opposite ABC’s new comedies “Modern Family” and “Cougar Town,” and new seasons of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and CBS’ “Criminal Minds.”
he CW has given a full-season order to veteran drama “One Tree Hill,” and has also ordered additional scripts for frosh entries “The Vampire Diaries” and “Melrose Place.”
The netlet had ordered just 13 episodes of “One Tree Hill” this season, but the early pickup now secures the show a full seventh season.
As for “Diaries,” the CW has picked up nine more scripts – a good sign that a full-season order is in the cards. And it’s no surprise: Show holds the record as the CW’s most-watched premiere ever (4.9 million viewers).
Then there’s “Melrose,” which has so far been a disappointment for the Dub. But net execs are still holding out hope for a turnaround – especially once Heather Locklear shows up in November. The CW believes the show is creatively on track enough to earn an order for six additional scripts.
CW execs were waiting Wednesday night to see how the second episode of its other new drama, “The Beautiful Life: TBL,” performs. That show struggled in its opening and now faces even tougher competition vs. the launch of ABC’s highly touted 9 p.m. comedies.
OK so something weird is happening on “One Tree Hill” — for some reason Sophia Bush’s character, Brooke Davis, is slowly morphing into “The Office” boss Michael Scott. Sure, it’s hard (that’s what she said!) for anyone to top Steve Carell’s amazing delivery of his now infamous “that’s what she said” jokes on the NBC sitcom, but Sophia is slowly coming close (that’s what she said!) on “One Tree Hill.”
For the past two episodes Brooke has, in our humble opinion, made some pretty funny “TWSS” jokes. In fact, they are dirtier than most we’d hear on “The Office.” Did you guys catch the one from last week when she and Julian (Austin Nichols) and he asks her is she’s coming (to join him for a nude swim) and she retorts under her breath, “That’s what she said!”? Um, that is a ballsy (that’s what she said!… yeah we can’t help ourselves either) comment for a CW show, right?
Either way, the Tree Hill resident has gotten so good at the comeback that she’s even schooling other people on the show about what it means and how to do it. We attribute Sophia’s wisecracks to our now consistent use of the phrase. In case you haven’t noticed, once you start it’s hard to just stop (that’s what she said!).
So with less than a week until the next “One Tree Hill,” we’ll anxiously wait to find out if the show’s writers can top “The Office” in their quest to turn Brooke into the next Michael Scott. This could make for some epic crossover action. (That’s what she said! Okay, that one didn’t work quite as well.)
Check out the promo for next weeks episode and a sneak peek of the episode too! Enjoy!
