‘One Tree Hill’: Jana Kramer Gives Us The Scoop On Alex’s Suicide Attempt + Will She Live?

Longtime “One Tree Hill” watchers shouldn’t be surprised when a plotline pulls a major, dramatic, out-of-left-field twist. After all, it seems to happen every other week. But even longtime watchers like myself were shocked at the ending to last week’s episode (SPOILER ALERT!) when actress/model/aspiring screenwriter Alex Dupre slit her wrists in her hotel room bathtub. The image of Alex’s red blood swirling in the bath water was a haunting note to end the episode on — so we caught up with Jana Kramer, who plays Alex, for the details on her characters tragic actions.

Its hard to understand exactly what was going through Alex’s head when she got into the bathtub, but Jana said she thinks Alex just felt so alone after her fight with Julian (Austin Nichols) that she thought it was her only option. “Julian was the only person who actually believed in her. And when he said to never talk to him again, I think she just felt like, This is it, there’s nobody else. There’s no one. She didn’t have any friends. She was alone. Unfortunately, selfishly, for her, her only escape was to try and kill herself, which I personally think is not the right thing to do.”

Since the actors don’t get their scripts until a couple of days before filming the episodes, Jana said she had no idea what was about to happen to her character. “When I read it, I was like ‘Holy crap!’ I was freaking out. Like, Whoa, that’s just intense.” When it came time to film the scene, Jana said she was genuinely scared. “First, I don’t like blood whatsoever. Even though it was fake blood, I was still so creeped out about it — and everybody on set was too. It was this eerie feeling.”

Jana said she thinks Alex developed such strong feelings for Julian because no one had ever respected her for her intelligence before. Shes had guys take advantage of her her whole entire life. “Julian actually really liked her work, so I feel like she fell in love with that. Shes never had anyone care about her that way, not in a sexual or outward appearance way. So I get it.”

In the coming weeks, the actress said the other characters will have to deal with the consequences of Alex’s suicide attempt (were hoping that’s all it is, at least). Julian especially will be affected, since he’s the one who walked into Alex’s room at the end of Mondays episode and hes the one who had the closest relationship with her. “He’s going to feel, well, one, shocked. And then he is definitely going to kind of stick by me as much as he can through my recovery — if I recover.”

Uh, so wait, will Alex recover? This is all Jana would tell us: “Well they made me a series regular, so I’m definitely not going to be dead unless — well maybe I am! maybe they’re going to turn me into a ghost. I know whats happening … you guys will find out on Monday.”

What did you think of last week’s episode of “One Tree Hill”? Did you expect Alex to react that way to her fight with Julian? How do you think this will affect the other characters?
